No Kidding with Your Kid’s Health

The health of children is top priority among parents and keeping them healthy and happy are every parent’s wish. Apart from providing them with a healthy diet that includes vegetables which are on the hate list of most children, we can give them some boosters which may help to enhance their mental performance and immune system.

Infants receive valuable assistance from their mothers’ breast milk to combat infection and disease during the critical neonatal period when their immune systems are not yet fully functional.

Colostrum is the first secretion produced by all mammals for the feeding of their newborns. Mothers produce colostrum because it is rich in immunity-enhancing components that help protect newborns from bacteria, viruses and other pathogens. Colostrum is only produced by the mammary glands for the first 48 to 60 hours following delivery. Colostrum is rich in growth factors such as insulin growth factor-1 (IGF-1) that can stimulate growth and repair of the gastrointestinal tract.

Lactoferrin comes from colostrum which is the first fluid that comes out of the mother’s breast after a baby is born. For anywhere from a day-and-a-half to 3 days, the mother produces a fluid that is not milk, but a mixture of immunoglobulins and about 15-20% lactoferrin. Lactoferrin is a protein molecule comprised of a single strand of amino acids.

Beta-glucan is a complex carbohydrate which has been demonstrated to have powerful immune-boosting and anticancer effects. Beta-glucan enhances immunity through a number of mechanisms and signals the white blood cells to engulf disease-causing tissues and micro-organisms, including bacteria, viruses and tumour cells.

Selenium supplementation appears to enhance immunity and counteract viral infections.  A recent article by British researchers supported the need for selenium supplementation. The article pointed to evidence that a subclinical selenium deficiency can cause adverse health effects. Evidence is mounting that a less obvious selenium deficiency can be just as harmful. Furthermore, the scientists pointed out that supra-nutritional level of selenium may protect against disease. According to the researchers, low or diminishing selenium levels in some parts of the world is a cause for concern. The declining selenium level in the world’s population is particularly alarming considering selenium’s role in health. In addition, growing evidence suggests that low selenium intakes are associated with increased cancer risk.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus lysate have shown significant immune system supporting properties.

Introducing Chewable Colostrum for Kids

Colostrum has been shown in clinical studies to support immune and GI functions. The formula has been improved with the addition of lactoferrin, beta-glucan, selenium, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus lysate.
